Recently a friend of mine told me about a guitarist that I should take a listen to whose style is so versatile. The album is Jury Of My Peers which was released on February 10, 2015, and the artist is Cedar Rapids, Iowa guitarist Dave Paris. Listening to this digital file, I was impressed with the many styles featured on this album whether it is metal, jazz, delta blues, progressive rock, and others. His style on many tracks reminded me of the great guitarists Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and many other great guitarists I have enjoyed in the past. This thirteen track album features such great tracks as Bought By Blood, Salvation Street, Chapter & Verse (which features guitar heavyweight Jeff Scheetz), Author Of Fate, Roman’s Road and so much more. I was quite impressed with how well this album was written, performed, recorded and produced. This is an album I highly recommend and you can purchase this release from Amazon, Itunes, CD Baby and other outlets where CD’s and digital downloads are sold.
I’m Still Here: Big Jay Sings The Blues is the final album from R&B/jazz/early rock saxophone legend, Big Jay McNeely, recorded earlier this year just months before his passing on September 16, 2018. It was released November 23, 2018, on the Cleopatra Blues Records label and is Big Jay’s first ever true blues album and he uses it to reflect on his life growing up in Watts. This twenty-third album of his career features such great tracks as You’ll Never Miss The Water, Baby Please Don’t Go, Once I Had A Woman, Way Back In The Old Days, the title track I’m Still Here, Still Got A Long Way To Go and so much more. This release proves he is indeed still here, that his music lives on and is well written, recorded, produced and performed. One Direction is the exciting debut album by Canadian Blues artist Milky Whites And The Bluesmen originally released in 2010. This is my second review for this great band as I reviewed their 2016 album Texas Drivin’ Blues as my 707th review. Now for my 1060th review I go back to where they began with great acoustic and lead guitar licks, great bluesy vocals and one hell of a performance with such tracks as Can’t Get By, It’s Too Soon For Ya Momma, Feelin’ Like A Shroom, Milky Whites, the title track One Direction and so much more. I enjoyed this album from start to finish and was impressed with how well this was written and recorded. I highly recommend this album to any blues fan and you can find this album at Amazon, Itunes, CD Baby and everywhere that CD’s and digital downloads are sold. I wish to thank Andy McIntosh for the opportunity to listen to this great album.
The Year Of Still Here is the October 19, 2018 release by Macon, Georgia recording artist Pammie Kakes Ensemble on the Ragged Heart & Grace Records. When I first saw the title of the band, I thought it was going to be a jazz CD and then found it is a great collection of country and blues with such great tracks as Hold On Baby, Smell The Rain, Joe And Marilyn, Second Best, Cougar and much more. Boyce is the debut self-titled album by Auburn, California metal band Boyce released August 12, 2011. What I enjoyed about this album was being a mixture of several kinds of metal, whether it is regular, progressive or dance. From the very first track called News To The World, I became hooked on this ten track album with great guitar riffs and powerful vocals. By the time I got to the fifth track Don’t Believe A Word, I was impressed with the great harmonies and how they mixed progressive metal with a flamingo guitar.
