For my 847th review, I am proud to present Songs From The Soul an album released June 7, 2017, on the 2 Many Records label by Nashville singer/songwriter Cris Loiter, whose real name is Chris Kulick who formed the Hangouts in the late 1980’s and is the band’s guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter.  Backing Chris up on this great album is Russ Goldman on Drums,  Matthew Heulitt on Guitars, Paul Eastman on Fiddle/Bass Guitars, Myles Boisen on Steel Guitar, Gary Boudreaux on Harmonica plus Curtis Burkhart and Bob Langlie on vocals.  Chris shows his songwriting ability and vocal style with such great tracks as  Better For Me No Way, the title track Songs From The Soul, Ask Him About The War (a song that is dedicated to all our current military men and women and all the veterans who have served our country. It is based on the story of a World War II veteran and hero living in modern times) and so much more. With myself being a Navy veteran, Ask Him About The War is my favorite track off this album.  I am impressed with how well this album was recorded, produced, performed and written.  I recommend you take a listen to this album on Spotify and then purchase this great release from Amazon, Itunes, CD Baby and everywhere that CD’s and digital downloads are sold.

Way Out West by Sonny Rollins

Way Out West is a 1957 album by American jazz tenor saxophonist  Sonny Rollins with bassist Ray Brown and drummer Shelly Manne, neither of whom had played or recorded with Rollins before. The recent reissue of the CD by Fantasy Records has additional takes of three of the songs, including the title track. These additional takes are all about twice as long, containing much longer solos from all three of the members of the band.  His jazz interpretations of such Old West Classics is shown with such tracks as I’m An Old Cowhand, Wagon Wheels, Solitude, Come Gone, the title track Way Out West and more.  This reissue was well recorded, produced and compiled and is available from Amazon, Itunes and everywhere that CD’s and digital downloads are sold.

Minutes To Circle by Phil Circle

Phil Circle is by no means your ordinary songster picking away quietly on his acoustic guitar. He manages to blend elements of rock, jazz, blues, folk, and even classical on his 2009 album Minutes To Circle featuring a full band backing 10 of the eleven tracks such as Surreal Life, Lipstick And Whiskey, There’s A River, Letter To A Friend, Afterlife and much more.  I was impressed with his songwriting and vocal style as well as his guitar riffs and licks plus how well this album was recorded and performed.  He also had written a 2017 book called The Outback Musician’s Survival Guide.  The CD is available on CD Baby and his website

Paradox Of External Limits by Eyeball

Paradox Of External Limits is the August 25. 2017 album by Raleigh, North Carolina psychedelic neo-space rock band Eyeball released on the 708077 Records label.  Listening to this band reminds me so much of the sound of Pink Floyd, Yes, and other creative bands.  This great band consists of Trey McLamb on drums and synthesizers, Myriam Martin on guitars and art noise, Brian Oaksford on Bass and guitars, and Aaron Albrecht on synthesizers.  This great combination shows their creativity and great sound on the four songs on this EP Acid War, Inside The Moon, Astral Projection, and The Red Minimum.  This album was well written, recorded, and performed.  I believe this band would be awesome to hear live.  Please take a listen to this album on Spotify and you will then want to purchase the Ep from Amazon, Itunes, Bandcamp and everywhere that CD’s and digital downloads are sold.

Jeff Clayborn by Jeff Clayborn

For my 841st music review, I am excited to announce the self-titled album by country artist Jeff Clayborn released December 8, 2017, on the Cabin Records label.  It’s not very often that I listen to an album that I like every song.  This one is different as while I was listening to this five-song EP, I liked every song from start to finish.  This album features the tracks  Caddy In The Campground, High And Lonesome, Acres Of Sunshine (which has a bluegrass sound), Good Bar Attender (a foot stomping and 100 proof country single), and My Woman Is Wine.  This album has that great country sound, plus some rock sound of bands such as Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers.  I was very impressed with how well this album was written (which all songs Jeff had cowrote Chuck Ebert), performed, recorded and produced by Chuck Ebert.  I would highly recommend that you listen to this EP on Spotify then purchase from Itunes, Amazon, CD Baby and everywhere CD’s and digital downloads are sold.
