Rats & Ravens by From Hell

Today I received a digital file from my friend Billy at Glass Onyon PR for a band called From Hell.  This is the first time I received any music from hell….lol.   The album is called Rats & Ravens to be released on May 22, 2020, on the Scourge Records label.  This amazing metal rock band from Oakland, California features Aleister Sinn on vocals and guitar, Wes Anderson on drums, Stephen Paul Goodwin on bass and Steve Smyth on lead guitar.  This ten-track album showcases this band’s great guitar work, driving drum beats, thumping bass lines and powerful vocals on such tracks as Lilium, The Witch, Don’t Cry For Help, Forest Of The Screaming Trees, Body Parts and so much more.  I was quite moved by the performance on this album as well as the songwriting, recording, and production of this album.  After hearing this release, I know I want to hear their earlier work to see their growth as a band.  You will be able to get your own copy on May 22nd on CD and digital download in stores and online.  You can learn more about this amazing band by going to their official website http://fromhell.net/

False Pretenses by Aittala

For my 1645th review, I am proud to present the album False Pretenses, my third review for the Raleigh, North Carolina based band Aittala which is a mix of classic heavy metal, progressive metal, thrash and hard rock comprising of Eric Aittala on guitar and lead vocals, Gary ‘Zeus’ Smith on drums and vocals, and Ali Lugo on bass.  This new album showcases ten brand new songs that not only continued the songwriting evolution of heavier but catchy songs but also sonically.   Aittala used an entirely different approach for the recording, mixing and mastering to create the best Aittala album to date which features amazing vocals, heavy guitar riffs and driving drum beats on such tracks as Infamy, How Much Longer, Afterthought, Funeral Procession and much more.  After hearing this album, I can see the growth of this band as performers and Eric’s growth as a songwriter plus I was impressed with the recording on this album.  My next goal is hopefully to see this band perform live and write a review of their live performance and finally get the opportunity to meet these guys.  This is an album I highly recommend you add to your music library which is available on CD and digital download from Bandcamp, Amazon, Apple Music, and many other music outlets.  To learn more about this amazing band, their other releases and their tour schedule, go to their official website https://www.aittala.com/

Abraxas Shrine by The Conduit

Abraxas Shrine is the December 20, 2019 album by the Los Angeles heavy metal project called The Conduit on the Akashic Records label.  This amazing band consists of Jeffrey Bobbin on vocals, Christopher Beattie and Ben Zeiger on guitars, Luca Canali on drums, and Tony Stanton on bass.  Before I started listening to this eleven-track album, I saw this is a heavy metal band.  As I started to listen to the first track on this album which is the title track Abraxas Shrine, it sounded like progressive/electronic rock and I said to myself, WHERE IS THE METAL!  About a minute or so into this song they kick in with metal and saw how versatile they are.  I continued to enjoy this album with its clean and unclean vocals, heavy guitar riffs and some awesome electronic sound with such tracks as Tactical Empath, Envemonate, Nightshade, Genesis Pattern and so much more.  I was impressed with the songwriting abilities of this band, as well as their performance and how this album was recorded.  This is definitely an album I would recommend you take a listen to.  Currently, this album is available as a digital download from Bandcamp, Amazon and other music outlets.  You can find more about this band by going to their Bandcamp page https://theconduit.bandcamp.com.  In closing, I want to thank this band for contacting me on twitter and sending me a digital download of this album to listen to and to give my opinion on this release.  I am looking forward to hearing their earlier releases and review them.

Abandoned In The Stranger’s Room by Epic Tantrum

For my 1627th music review, I am proud to present the January 20, 2020 debut album Abandoned In The Stranger’s Room by New York-based band Epic Tantrum consisting of Peter Levine on guitar and vocals, Paul on guitar and vocals, Greg Ross on bass and vocals and Z on drums.  I enjoyed this double album release from start to finish with elements of progressive rock, jazz, and heavy metal with the first part of the album, ‘Abandoned,’ featuring studio recordings of previously unreleased material with such tracks as Don’t Bother, Fable Of Fortune, Outside The Wire, Letting Go and much more.  The second part, ‘In The Stranger’s Room,’ features live versions of songs from Abandoned as well as material that appeared on previously released demos such as Franklin Park Blues, Now I Know, Accessory, and even more.  I was quite moved by the performance with amazing vocals and guitar riffs on this album, especially for a debut album that sounds as seasoned as a band that has recorded many albums.  The songwriting on this album was first-rate, as well as the recording.  This is a band that if they ever come down my way to perform in one of our clubs, I would be there to see them perform live and meet this band in person.  You can get your copy of this great CD from the band’s official website https://epictantrum.com where you can also learn more about this great band, their music and where they may be performing near you.

Judas is the seventh studio album by the American heavy metal band Fozzy, released on October 13, 2017, through Century Media Records.  This band features Chris Jericho, an American-born Canadian professional wrestler, musician, podcaster, author, actor, and entrepreneur on lead vocals, Rich Ward on lead guitar, keyboards and backing vocals, Frank “Bud” Fontsere on drums and backing vocals and Randy Drake on bass and backing vocals.  This eleven-track album spawned the singles Drinkin’ With Jesus, the title track Judas, Painless (my favorite track) and Burn Me Out.  Other notable tracks on this album are Three Days In Jail, Running With The Bulls and much more.  I was impressed with this album with a mixture of clean and unclean vocals, heavy guitar riffs, and driving drum beats as well as a great performance and songwriting work.  I first saw them perform at Rockfest in Charleston, South Carolina but was unable to get my album signed so I plan to see them in April at Capone’s in Johnson City, Tennessee and hope this time I will be successful getting this album singed finally.  To find out more about this band, their tour schedule and more go to their official website https://www.fozzyrock.com
