My 941st review takes me back to the sound of Asleep With The Wheel and Leon Redbone with this great self-titled album by The Philcos consisting of Mike Cronic on acoustic guitar and lead vocal, my buddy from the WannaBeatles Bryan Cumming on clarinet, melodica and harmony vocal and Sam Frazee on upright bass and harmony vocal. I enjoyed their arrangement of such songs as Pistol Packin’ Mama, the Tennessee Ford song Sixteen Tons, Ain’t Misbehavin’ which I am a fan of Leon Redbones version, Stranger On The Shore and so much more. They took these songs and made it their own. It was well recorded and performed. I recommend this album that loves the old country sound. This album is available from CD Baby and other outlets where CD’s and digital downloads are sold.

This great album has a sound which is a mixture of Rock, Blues, and Country with such tracks as Bad Bad Billy, Geronimo, Rollin’ Hot, Whiskey Run and much more. For my 922 review, I am proud to present female southern rocker Rachel Wise and her debut album Southern Life released back on May 5, 2015, on her own label with a sound has been described as soulful country with a southern rock flair. There are very few female country artists with a southern rock sound and she shows this with such tracks as the title track Southern Life, American Dream, Dreams, Washed, Shoulda Known Better and so much more. I was impressed with her songwriting abilities, as well as her great voice as well as how well this album was performed, recorded and produced. I am looking forward to hearing more from this artist. Still Country, Still King: A Tribute To George Jones is the upcoming album and my third review for Nashville outlaw country artist James Carothers, scheduled for release on September 7, 2018, on the Renegade Mountain Records label. The first single Sinners and Saints is a good “close to home” kind of song that has it all, jail, church, adultery, gossip, and redemption. I was impressed how he can tell a story with this song. Also on this album is George Jones classics which he did justice, with his rich voice such as The Race Is On, Still Doin’ Time, He Stopped Loving Her Today and much more. James did very well on this one with how it was performed, recorded and produced. If you are a George Jones fan or a fan of his style of music, you will definitely want to listen to this album on Spotify and then preorder this album from Amazon, Itunes, and other outlets where CD’s and digital downloads are sold.
Two Lane Town is the fourth studio album and July 28, 2018 release by Kentucky native, and Nashville recording artist J. D. Shelburne on his own label. I am impressed with J. D’s voice and delivery of a song. Among the great tracks on this nine song album are Born For This, Good Ol’ Boy Good Time, Young Again, Superman and much more. I enjoyed this album from start to finish and was impressed with his songwriting abilities ( he co-wrote five out of the nine songs on this album, and how well this album was recorded, produced and performed. You can purchase this great album from Amazon, CD Baby and other outlets where CD’s and digital downloads are sold. Thank you Jeremy Westby and everyone at 2911 Media for the allowing me to review this fine album.
Borrowed Tyme Band is the self-titled album by Indiana bluegrass band Borrowed Tyme Band. This band consists of Roger Brown on mandolin and vocals, Rick Wilson on bass, Josh Woods on banjo and harmonizing vocals, and Tim Crouch on fiddle. This album was recorded by the Bonfire Recording Company which is owned by Pinecastle Records and is their home studio in Greenville, South Carolina. Their first single is their arrangement of Little Bessie, one of the most popular death ballads in bluegrass and old-time music. It’s been famously recorded by a who’s who of artists, including The Country Gentlemen, The Stanley Brothers, The Blue Sky Boys, Ricky Skaggs, J.D. Crowe, Roscoe Holcomb, and many others. This album also features such foot-tapping songs as My Time Will Come Someday and No Mother Or Dad, plus slower waltzing songs such as the title track Borrowed Time, Gold Watch And Chain and so much more. This album was well written, recorded, and performed and is also available for purchase since July 6, 2018, from Amazon, Itunes, Pinecastle Records and everywhere else that CD’s and digital downloads are sold.
There is always a first on my reviews. This one is my first review of a 45 rpm record called Between The This & The That with the flip side Plaid Blimp TV Show by Play Hot Lava Band released in 2016 Chloe’s Household Music Records label. The band of Tracee Perrin, Craig Anderson, Keefer Dickerson, and Casey Pollock from Nashville, Tennessee. This limited edition single on red vinyl shows a mixture of Rock N Roll and Country. I was impressed with the instrumentation and vocals and how well this release was written, recorded, and performed. You can buy a copy of this awesome single from playhotlava.net
It is not very often I am sent a Comedy CD to review, but recently I was sent a Comedy CD called Trust Me, You’ll Like It by Howie Newman. This collection of humorous songs was released November 30, 2006, on the Major League Records label. The music on this album is a mixture of country, jazz, and little Texas swing. This thirteen track release features such songs as Everybody’s Talkin’ On The Phone, Way Past My Bedtime, Please Buy My Record, Weekend Warrior, Pushin’ 30 and much more. It was well written, recorded and produced. This release is available from Amazon, CD Baby, Itunes and many other outlets.
Lifers is the much-anticipated eighth album by Cody Jinks. July 27, 2018, has been scheduled for the release of his first LP after signing with Rounder Records. A Texas native and former thrash metal singer, Jinks captured the attention of country fans in 2016 with the release of I’m Not the Devil. Now with the release of Lifers, this eleven track album features Can’t Quit Enough, a song that Cody has been performing in concert for the past year and a new single Must Be The Whiskey which will be the first single to be released on this new album. This album also features such great tracks as Holy Water, the title track Lifers, Somewhere Between I Love You And I’m Leavin’ and much more. I was impressed with how well this album was written, recorded, produced and performed. I highly recommend this album to your country library.
