Borrowed Tyme Band is the self-titled album by Indiana bluegrass band Borrowed Tyme Band. This band consists of Roger Brown on mandolin and vocals, Rick Wilson on bass, Josh Woods on banjo and harmonizing vocals, and Tim Crouch on fiddle. This album was recorded by the Bonfire Recording Company which is owned by Pinecastle Records and is their home studio in Greenville, South Carolina. Their first single is their arrangement of Little Bessie, one of the most popular death ballads in bluegrass and old-time music. It’s been famously recorded by a who’s who of artists, including The Country Gentlemen, The Stanley Brothers, The Blue Sky Boys, Ricky Skaggs, J.D. Crowe, Roscoe Holcomb, and many others. This album also features such foot-tapping songs as My Time Will Come Someday and No Mother Or Dad, plus slower waltzing songs such as the title track Borrowed Time, Gold Watch And Chain and so much more. This album was well written, recorded, and performed and is also available for purchase since July 6, 2018, from Amazon, Itunes, Pinecastle Records and everywhere else that CD’s and digital downloads are sold.
There is always a first on my reviews. This one is my first review of a 45 rpm record called Between The This & The That with the flip side Plaid Blimp TV Show by Play Hot Lava Band released in 2016 Chloe’s Household Music Records label. The band of Tracee Perrin, Craig Anderson, Keefer Dickerson, and Casey Pollock from Nashville, Tennessee. This limited edition single on red vinyl shows a mixture of Rock N Roll and Country. I was impressed with the instrumentation and vocals and how well this release was written, recorded, and performed. You can buy a copy of this awesome single from playhotlava.net
It is not very often I am sent a Comedy CD to review, but recently I was sent a Comedy CD called Trust Me, You’ll Like It by Howie Newman. This collection of humorous songs was released November 30, 2006, on the Major League Records label. The music on this album is a mixture of country, jazz, and little Texas swing. This thirteen track release features such songs as Everybody’s Talkin’ On The Phone, Way Past My Bedtime, Please Buy My Record, Weekend Warrior, Pushin’ 30 and much more. It was well written, recorded and produced. This release is available from Amazon, CD Baby, Itunes and many other outlets.
Lifers is the much-anticipated eighth album by Cody Jinks. July 27, 2018, has been scheduled for the release of his first LP after signing with Rounder Records. A Texas native and former thrash metal singer, Jinks captured the attention of country fans in 2016 with the release of I’m Not the Devil. Now with the release of Lifers, this eleven track album features Can’t Quit Enough, a song that Cody has been performing in concert for the past year and a new single Must Be The Whiskey which will be the first single to be released on this new album. This album also features such great tracks as Holy Water, the title track Lifers, Somewhere Between I Love You And I’m Leavin’ and much more. I was impressed with how well this album was written, recorded, produced and performed. I highly recommend this album to your country library. Remember July 27th is the release date for this CD, Vinyl, and digital download from Amazon, Itunes, and all other outlets.
Without Permission is the 2018 release by Nashville based artist Derek Fields on the Robinson Levee Records label. This nine track album is a mixture of Americana and country rock as seen in such tracks as Out Run The Rain, Modern Day Outlaw, Break Nashville and much more. Derek shows his great voice and songwriting abilities. It was also well recorded, performed and produced. Take a listen to this album on Spotify and then you will want to purchase this from CD Baby.
Today I received a preview of an upcoming album called So Happy by Rick Vines All-Stars to be officially released on about August 1, 2018. I was impressed with the various styles on this album such as Blues, Rock, Country and more. I enjoyed this album from start to finish with such great tracks as the title track So Happy, D’Lila, I Can’t Breathe, Woodstock, Making Our Way In The World and so much more. I am thrilled with the great voice, soothing piano, and more. I am also impressed with his songwriting style, the recording of this album and performance. You are able to listen to the title track now and more after the first of August.
For my 847th review, I am proud to present Songs From The Soul an album released June 7, 2017, on the 2 Many Records label by Nashville singer/songwriter Cris Loiter, whose real name is Chris Kulick who formed the Hangouts in the late 1980’s and is the band’s guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter. Backing Chris up on this great album is Russ Goldman on Drums, Matthew Heulitt on Guitars, Paul Eastman on Fiddle/Bass Guitars, Myles Boisen on Steel Guitar, Gary Boudreaux on Harmonica plus Curtis Burkhart and Bob Langlie on vocals. Chris shows his songwriting ability and vocal style with such great tracks as Better For Me No Way, the title track Songs From The Soul, Ask Him About The War (a song that is dedicated to all our current military men and women and all the veterans who have served our country. It is based on the story of a World War II veteran and hero living in modern times) and so much more. With myself being a Navy veteran, Ask Him About The War is my favorite track off this album. I am impressed with how well this album was recorded, produced, performed and written. I recommend you take a listen to this album on Spotify and then purchase this great release from Amazon, Itunes, CD Baby and everywhere that CD’s and digital downloads are sold.
For my 841st music review, I am excited to announce the self-titled album by country artist Jeff Clayborn released December 8, 2017, on the Cabin Records label. It’s not very often that I listen to an album that I like every song. This one is different as while I was listening to this five-song EP, I liked every song from start to finish. This album features the tracks Caddy In The Campground, High And Lonesome, Acres Of Sunshine (which has a bluegrass sound), Good Bar Attender (a foot stomping and 100 proof country single), and My Woman Is Wine. This album has that great country sound, plus some rock sound of bands such as Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers. I was very impressed with how well this album was written (which all songs Jeff had cowrote Chuck Ebert), performed, recorded and produced by Chuck Ebert. I would highly recommend that you listen to this EP on Spotify then purchase from Itunes, Amazon, CD Baby and everywhere CD’s and digital downloads are sold.
The long-time member of the New Jersey band, the Voodudes, singer Andy B. (Bernstein) has put together a collection that highlights the broad range of his musical influence on an all-original program with the great album My Roots Are Showing. released September 29, 2016. This album is a mixture of many genres such as blues, zydeco, soul, country and more as shown in such tracks as Great Time Comin’, One More River, Mary Ellis, Break Someone Else’s Heart, My Baby’s Gone and so much more. I was impressed by how well this album was recorded and as well it was written and produced. This album is available on Amazon, CD Baby and everywhere that CD’s and digital downloads are sold.
For my 835th music review, I am proud to present the 2013 album Fancypants by Seattle based band, Thornton Creek. This band has that old country sound and feeling like a remastering of music recorded a long, long time ago, this is country without the Nashville sheen with such songs as Wishing Well, Kicking Headstones, Every Little Now And Then, What You Do, Hold On Dahlin’, Low Tide and so much more. This album has great vocals and instrumentation as well as it being very well written, recorded and performed by Thorton Bowman on acoustic guitar and vocal, Mark Drake on drums, Steve Miller on bass, and Don Miller on electric and steel guitar. Check out this album and if you are a fan of classic country, you will want to purchase this album from CD Baby, FYE, Itunes, and everywhere that CD’s and digital downloads are sold.
