The Last Starfighter by Robert Calvert

Robert Calvert, one of the most charismatic and cutting-edge visionaries to emerge out of London’s psych rock scene of the ’60s & ’70s is back with a new remix project, called The Last Starfighter. The project features vintage Calvert tracks taken from both his solo albums as well as raw, and unfinished demos.  This nineteen track album features such songs as Over The Moon (A Flock Of Seagulls Remix), Marathon Man (Xiu Xiu Remix), Acid Rain (Black Plastic remix),  Subterraneans (Small Black Remix), Lord Of The Hornets (Rat Scabies Remix), Flight 105 (European Ghost Remix) and so much more,  I was quite moved with the performance on this album as well as superb recording and production. The Last Starfighter will be available on both CD and gorgeous silver or purple vinyl in a gatefold jacket starting February 19, 2021 courtesy of Cleopatra Records!

Greatest Hits by Bruce Springsteen

The other night my wife and I watched the movie Blinded by the Light (also known as Music of My Life) is a 2019 British comedy-drama film directed by Gurinder Chadha. It was inspired by the life of journalist Sarfraz Manzoor and his love of the works of Bruce Springsteen. The movie features many songs by Bruce Springsteen which sparked my interest in his music again. When I saw I had none in my library, I ordered the vinyl album Greatest Hits,  the first compilation album by American singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen, released February 27, 1995, on Columbia Records. It is a collection of some of Springsteen’s hit singles and popular album tracks through the years along with four new songs at the end, mostly recorded with the E Street Band in 1995 which features Bruce Springsteen on guitar and vocals, Roy Bittan on piano and synthesizer, Clarence Clemons on saxophone, Danny Federici on organ and othe keyboards, Garry Tallent on bass, and Max Weinberg on drums. Alsp joining the band on several tracks was Steven Van Zandt and Nils Lofgren on guitar and Patti Scialfa on vocals.  This two album vinyl collection features such greatest hits tracks as Born To Run, Hungry Heart, Born In The USA, Streets Of Philadelphia, Glory Days, Dancing In The Dark and so much more.  This release also featured four new songs Secret Garden, Murder Incorporated, Blood Brothers, and This Hard Land.  I was quite moved by the performance on this album as well as Bruce Springsteen’s songwriting talent and a superb recording.  If you want to add one Bruce Springsteen album to your library, I highly recommend this one.  This album is available on 2 LP vinyl, CD and digital download from Amazon, Discogs, and everywhere music is sold.

Shake The Devil: The Lost Sessions by Tommy Bolin

Guitar legend Tommy Bolin, known for his work with Deep Purple and The James Gang released the album Shake The Devil: The Lost Sessions which was released February 12, 2021 on the Cleopatra Records label which features demos and outtakes from the recording sessions that produced Bolin’s most fully realized and sadly final album before his untimely death on December 4, 1976.  This posthumous twelve track album features  both acoustic, instrumental and alternate versions of some of Bolin’s best known tunes including his most popular song, Bustin’ Out For Rosey, other tracks such as the title track Shake The Devil, Sweet Burgundy, Gypsy Soul and so much more.  This great album features an amazing performance and songwriting, as well as superb recording.  This is an artist that is missed by all of us rock fans, so this album is one we will want to add to our music libraries which will be available on both CD as well as a gorgeous gatefold vinyl with your choice of white, purple or red vinyl as well as digital download from Amazon, Cleopatra Records and all other music retailers.

Judge A Man By The Company He Keeps by The Eisenhowers

Judge A Man By The Company He Keeps is the third album by the Scottish band The Eisenhowers released November 27, 2020 on the Waste Of Point Records label.  This twelve track album showcases a great mixture of genres such as rock, pop and even reggae on one track with such great songs as I Like Your Girlfriend, Angry Boy, My Gang, And Then He Flew Towards The Sun, Far Side Of The Moon, 3 O’Clock On A Saturday and so much more.  I was quite impressed with the performance on this album as well as great songwriting and a superb recording.  I would love the opportunity to hear their earlier two albums to see the growth of this band as songwriters and performers. Guardian Angel by Peggy James

It’s been a week of two since I reviewed the album Paint Still Wet by Peggy James.  Now I am proud to present her new single Guardian Angel released on January 15, 2021 via Happy Growl Records.  As soon as I listened to this song, I knew it should be on the top 40 radio list. With an amazing voice, great instrumentation and a superb recording this is a song everyone should listen to with everything that is going on in the world. A Romantic’s Guide To King Crimson by The Mastelottos

Romantic’s Guide To King Crimson is the December 16, 2020 release by The Mastelottos consisting of Pat Mastelotto (of King Crimson, Mr. Mister, XTC, others) and his wife Deborah (providing the vocals) on the 7D Media Records label containing twelve King Crimson classics showcasing a Unexpectedly lush with orchestral, bluesy arrangements and a Pop Prog twist, that lay somewhere between sexy and slutty kind of sound which spans King Crimson’s entire history with such tracks as Heartbeat, Moon Child, Elephant Talk, Exiles, One Time and so much more.  I was quite moved by the performance on this release as well as the arrangements to make this album sound different than the normal King Crimson performance as well as a superb recording.  I highly recommend this album to anyone that is a King Crimson fan.  The only thing I wished on this album was adding the song In The Court Of The Crimson King which is one of my King Crimson songs. Worlds On Hold by Prog Collective

Prog Collective, a star-studded prog-rock project spearheaded by Yes bassist/singer Billy Sherwood, will release its third studio album, Worlds on Hold, on February 5, 2021 on the Purple Pyramid Records label along with Cleopatra Records.  Among the many well-known artists contributing to the album are several Yes members and alums, as well as Todd Rundgren, current Asia/former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal, ex-Blood, Sweat & Tears frontman David Clayton-Thomas, former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett, ex-Rainbow singers Graham Bonnet and Joe Lynn Turner, longtime Jethro Tull guitarist Martin Barre and ex- Queensryche  singer Geoff Tate.  This thirteen track releases features original and cover tracks such as the title track Worlds On Hold, Whiter Shade Of Pale (originally recorded by Procol Harum), The Doors classic People Are Strange, Alan Parsons Project hit Eye In The Sky, Glory Days Ahead, The Beatles song Penny Lane and so much more.  I was quite impressed with how they took so many classics and made it their own.  In addition to an amazing performance, it is complimented with a superb recording.  This is an album I definitely want to add to my vinyl library.  You can pre-order Worlds on Hold now on CD, digitally, and as a deluxe two-LP set pressed on green vinyl from Cleopatra Records, Amazon and many other music retailers.

Lufkin by Randy C. Moore

Award Winning Singer/Songwriter Randy C Moore released his new album, Lufkin January 5, 2021 on Highway 59 Records.  This is my second review for this amazing artist, the first being Hwy 59 that I reviewed back June of 2017.  His vocals and style reminds me so much of one of my favorites Jerry Jeff Walker.  Once you hear this album you can definitely notice the Texas style of this artist.  This releases features a great line up of musicians such as Greg Morrow on drums & percussion, Norbert Putnam on electric bass guitar, Troy Klontz on pedal steel, and Randy Moore is on guitar and piano as well as string arrangements. This ten track album features such amazing tracks as He’s Just A Cowboy, Big In Texas, I Sold A Lot Of Beer, Day After Day, Devil For Hire and so much more.  Randy wrote many of the songs for this album and showcased a great performance and an excellent recording.  It was so good to hear an album by him after all these years.  I am looking forward to his next album which I hope one day he releases a vinyl so I can add a signed copy to my collection.  This great album is available on Amazon, Apple Music and other retailers where CDs and digital downloads are sold.  To learn more about this artist go to his official website https://randycmoore.com/

Paint Still Wet by Peggy James
