Open Your Heart by Emily Johnson

For my 753rd review, I am proud to present Open Your Heart the debut EP by Bulgarian/Nigerian artist Emily Johnson to be released May 11, 2018 on the Tarpan Records label with some heavy hitters helping out on this great release being produced by Narada Michael Walden and featuring four original songs, the title track Open My Heart, The Light, I’m Blessed and Baby Forever.  One thing I am very impressed with is that on backing vocals on two of the tracks is an amazing talent that I have had the privilege to review in the past Cornell “CC” Carter.  I am very much in awe of her great voice and the fact that she was discovered by the great John McLaughlin, the guitarist, and leader of the Mahavishnu Orchestra.  This debut release was well performed, recorded, written and produced.  You will definitely want to hear this album and purchase it from Amazon, Itunes and everywhere that CD’s and digital downloads are sold.

Here It Is by Danny Kean

Here It Is is the latest EP by Danny Kean, an accomplished singer, songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and actor from Farmingdale, New York and has been blind since birth.  This amazing project finds him diving deeper into his musicality than ever before, including overtures into smooth R&B, early Motown, classic soul, funk rock, and Neo-soul.  I enjoyed listening to this EP from start to finish, not a bad song on the whole album.  If I had to choose my favorites from this six-track EP, I would have to choose I Can Wait, Soul Provider and Deal With It.  I was also impressed with Danny’s take on a Neil Young classic Heart Of Gold.  This album was well performed and recorded and is available for purchase from CD Baby, Amazon, Itunes and everywhere that CD’s and digital downloads are sold.

Showtime by James Brown

Showtime is the eighth studio album by American musician James Brown. The album was released in April 1964, by the Smash Records label during a time it was the transition from King Records to Smash Records, however, handicapped by contractual obligations with King Records, Brown released an album of remakes overdubbed with canned applause.  This great album contains such great tracks as Caldonia, Sweet Lorraine, The Things I Used To Do, Blues For My Baby, Don’t Cry Baby, and so much more.   James Brown is one of my favorite R&B recording artists and I was impressed by how well this album was written, performed, recorded and produced.  You will definitely want to add this album to your record library.
