Greatest Hits is a compilation album of American R&B group Earth, Wind & Fire. It contains several songs recorded between 1973 and 1981 and it was released on November 17, 1998 on the Columbia/Legacy Records label. Listening to this great compilation brings so many great memories with such great tracks as September, Shining Star, Boogie Wonderland, After The Love Is Gone, and my all time favorite That’s Way Of The World. This compilation is great from start to finish and was well performed, recorded and produced. This is one album you would want to add to your library.
In My Head is an upcoming album to be released on October 13, 2017 by electronic band Unknown Hero on their own label. This album is a mixture of R&B, Hip Hop, Rock, and Funk. I was impressed by the instrumentation on this album with such tracks as Be Alright and Close My Door which has rich vocal harmonies and piano Melodies. Other notable tracks on this fifteen song album are Her Name, One More Day, Keep Moving Me, and much more. The album was well written, performed, recorded and produced. This is an album you need to take a listen to. This album will be available for purchase on itunes, bandcamp and other places where CD’s and digital downloads is available.
For my 479th review, I am proud to present Midnight Snack by Funky AF recorded in Venice Beach, California. This album has great vocals and is versatile in styles. For example if you took Jethro Tull and Santana and put them together you would come up with the song Crystal Ball. Danny Weed has a great reggae sound. The rest of the songs on this EP have a great funky sound along with the sound that made Curtis Mayfield famous. I am looking forward to hearing more from this great artist. You can find this album at CD Baby and https:/funkyaf.bandcamp.com
Girl On Fire is the fifth studio album by American recording artist Alicia Keys. The album, which was released on November 22, 2012, is Keys’ first release with RCA Records. I have not listened to much of her music prior to this until I heard someone trying to do the song Girl On Fire on America’s Got Talent. I did not care for how the song was done, but loved the song and decided to check out the original version and the album. I am a big fan of the song Girl On Fire on this album, but not the mix. This album also spawned the singles Brand New Me, New Day, Fire We Make, and Tears Always Win. I was also impressed with the songs One Thing, That’s When I Knew, Listen To Your Heart and much more. All the songs on this album were co written by Alicia. This is the second album I have listened to by this great artist and will check out more in the future. This release is well performed, recorded and produced by “Babyface” Edmonds. I highly recommend this album to one’s music library.
For my 460th review, I am proud to report on the album My Favorite Joints, a fantastic album by The Force MDs, an American R&B vocal group that was formed in 1981 in Staten Island, New York and was released July 7, 2017, on Goldenlane Records and distributed by Cleopatra Records. This great band returns with their first new recordings in over 20 years! Their vocal style and harmonies are still strong as noted in such tracks as Let’s Get It On (originally recorded by Marvin Gaye) Love and Happiness (originally recorded by Al Green) Just My Imagination (originally recorded by The Temptations), End Of The Road (originally recorded by Boyz II Men), Ain’t No Stopping Us Now (originally recorded by McFadden and Whitehead) and many others. Two notable tracks that I have heard for the first time was People Make The World Go Round and Whip Appeal. This is one album I can listen to over and over again and would love to hear their earlier material. I am very impressed with how well this album was performed, recorded and produced. If you are a fan of the older R&B, you will want to add this one to your music library.
Chicago & Earth, Wind & Fire – Live at the Greek Theatre is a live concert DVD by American bands Chicago and Earth, Wind & Fire. The recording was made at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, California at the end of their joint tour in 2004. I usually do not review music videos but this one is an exception. In my opinion this is one of the best concert video ever made. The video starts off with both bands doing the classic Chicago song Beginnings and then going into the Earth Wind & Fire song Into The Stone. After the intro each band goes into their separate part of the concert. After a coin flip Earth Wind and Fire starts off with some of their biggest hits such as Boogie Wonderland, Serpentine Fire, After the Love Is Gone, That’s The Way Of The World and more. Then Chicago takes the stage starting off with Ballad For A Girl in Buchanan from their album Chicago II. Then they go into some of their major hits as Hard Habit to Break, Alive Again, Saturday in the Park, If You Leave Me Now and more. After each band did their park of the show they get back together for the finale which they did such songs as September, Free, Shining Star and the powerful last song 25 or 6 to 4. I am just disappointed that this was not released as a CD or on vinyl. Still I recommend this DVD or Blu Ray to your video library.
Walk With Me is my second review for North American adult pop- adult contemporary artist, singer and songwriter Jennifer Saran. This 2016 release on the Tarpan Records label showcases Jennifer’s powerful vocals whether it is that great disco sound of the 70s and 80s or her soulful ballads. This album was produced by legendary producer Narada Michael Walden (Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin, Sting). Some of my favorite songs on this eighteen track album were Where Have You Been, Sacred Lover, Sexy Time, Its Not Over, Come Home and so much more. This album was great from start to finish. Well written and well recorded. Check out this album, you will definitely like it. You can purchase this album at Amazon, Itunes, and wherever CD’s are sold.
Orlando in Heaven is a 2017 release. Multi-Emmy award winning producer/composer Brian Tarquin And Company presents this very special project featuring an incredible cast of musical virtuosos playing their hearts out for the victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando FL! This album which was released on the Purple Pyramid is a mixture of Jazz and Soul. On this eleven track are great cuts such as Orlando In Heaven, Madame Shanghai, Metropolis, Jacob Ladder and much more. This album was well written, performed, recorded and produced. I recommend this album to anyone’s jazz library. This album is available on Amazon plus other places CD’s are sold and a portion of the proceeds from this release will go to Catholic Charities who provide case management and support services for victims and family members!
The Temptations in a Mellow Mood is the sixth studio album by The Temptations for the Motown Records label released November 27, 1967. This album was released at a time that Barry Gordy wanted The Temptations to cross over to white audiences and would be able to secure play dates at supper clubs like the Copacabana. Paul Williams was worried about being a sellout to black audiences, but the experiment worked. This album consisted of crossover classics such as The Impossible Dream, A Taste Of Honey, That’s Life, and my favorite song on the album For Once In My Life (a slower version of the song originally recorded by Stevie Wonder) and much more. This album was well performed, recorded and produced. I highly recommend this album to anyone’s record library.
Roots Rock N Universal Love is the debut album by New York Soul Rocker Kwame Binea Shakedown to be released May 30, 2017 on the 7D Media Records label. This album is a mix of R&B and rock. I was very impressed with this album with his vocal styling and great instrumental backup. This ten track album has great cuts such as Ain’t Your Woman, Back To You, World On Fire, Mona Lisa and much more. This album was well written, performed and recorded. I recommend this album and it will be available on Amazon, Bandcamp and other locations.
