Skydog: The Duane Allman Retrospective

Duane Allman’s acclaimed box set, Skydog: The Duane Allman Retrospective, was a critical and commercial success released November 11, 2013 on Rounder Records.  The package includes the original 72-page booklet and seven CD’s containing many classic Allman Brothers songs, and a collector’s cache of rare singles and long out-of-print album tracks. The songs range from his early recordings (with Gregg) in bands such as The Escorts, Allman Joys and Hour Glass; to his studio work with Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, Boz Scaggs and Delaney & Bonnie; to a live jam session with the Grateful Dead. There are great tracks on this collection such as Dreams, Whipping Post, Midnight Rider, Layla, Statesboro Blues, Sugar Magnolia and so much more. This album was very well written, performed, recorded, and produced. I recommend this collection to anyone’s music library.

I already have not only most of the ABB’s best stuff but also Duane’s anthologies I and Ii. So I find myself wondering if this is worth it or will it just be redundant.

The anthologies have songs that he performed with other groups as well.
